In case you’re wondering, the gentleman in question was William Rufas DeVane King. King was James Buchanan’s lover. The two lived together for 15 years in Washington, DC. King was a politician himself, serving as a Senator and was the shortest-termed Vice President – dying just 45 days into his term from tuberculosis. Andrew Jackson refered to King as “Aunt Fancy” and “Miss Nancy” due to his relationship with Buchanan. [via The Daily What]
